Abstract: SEZs are special areas having objectives to improve trade balance, generate employment, attracting foreign direct investment, infrastructure development and efficient administration. As there are minimal restrictions on taxes, SEZs acts as a catalyst for economic growth. This paper introduces the application of GIS in construction. To monitor the activities during and after construction, GIS proves beneficial in visual representation. Planned Schedule vs Actual Progress can be visually represented during construction with the help of QGIS software. Various layers are created in QGIS software (Like representation of area in plots, open spaces, green belt, roads, monuments). But while execution, construction project gets delay. Hence, to overcome project scheduling challenges, optimization of project scheduling is done with the advanced technology in construction industry. The objective of this study is to develop framework of GIS and Genetic Algorithm, to address limitations in project scheduling and optimization of project schedule by suitable optimization technique. In this study project schedule is optimized by implementing Genetic Algorithm in python programming language. The cycle undergoes into iterations to get the optimum output. This helps in reducing risk of time overrun and cost overrun at the end of the project. This research will help in good project control and better planning can be achieved during construction phase.
