Biofuel production from renewable sources is widely considered to be one of the most sustainable alternatives to petroleum sourced fuels and a viable means for environmental sustainability. Biodiesel is an alternative fuel similar to conventional or ‘fossil’ diesel. Biodiesel can be produced from vegetable oil, animal oil/fats and waste cooking oil. The process used to convert these oils to Biodiesel is called transesterification. The largest possible source of suitable oil comes from oil crops such as palm, rice, neem, groundnut etc. Biodiesel has many environmentally beneficial properties. The main benefit of Biodiesel is that it can be described as ‘carbon neutral’, this property of Biodiesel may helpful in the future carbon border adjustment tax. Biodiesel is biodegradable and completely non-toxic, meaning spillages represent far less of a risk than fossil diesel spillages. Biodiesel has a higher flash point than fossil diesel
and so is safer in the event of a crash. Present study focuses on production of biodiesel from Palm olein oil, Rice brane oil, Neem oil and their yield comparison. All the experiments were carried out in batch mode. To produce Biodiesel, oils are heated to 60 0C and (1:4, 1:5, 1:6, 1:7, 1:8) oil to methanol molar ratio, containing 0.5g KOH catalyst, added to heated oil and stirred to 60 min. The fuel properties of produced biodiesel such as density, flash point, fire point, kinematic viscosity was analyzed and compared to conventional diesel and acid value, % free fatty acid, saponification value, ester values are founded.
