| Abstract: | Our conversation or spoken discourse has a particular structure: beginning section, middle section, and closing section. In the beginning section we find attention-getters or greetings. In the body or middle section, we find topic nomination, topic development, topic clarification, topic shifting, avoidance strategies used—gap-fillers, interruptions and butting in with hesitators, turn taking, repair and hedges ,turn yielding signals. The closing section consists of two parts : pre-closing sequence and leave-taking section. Our conversation begins with greetings or vocatives. We, during our conversation, express different language functions. We must know how to greet , how to suggest, how to advise, how to invites, etc. We must know the correct pronunciation of English words. |
