Abstract : The Rajbangsi or Koch-Rajbangsies are recognised as the indigenous group of people of Assam in general and of Goalpara in particular. Ethnically they are belong to greater Mongolian stock of North-eastern India but from linguistic point of view, they are belong to Aryan group. They are believed to be one of the earliest group of Mongolian Stock who had come into direct contact with the Austric people here besides also experiencing the significant Aryan influence in this region. As a result they have developed certain distinct characteristics. Over time they embraced Aryan culture and language by giving up their traditional Mongoloid culture and language. In course of time they identified themselves as the follower of Aryan culture and Language. Due to the above fact, though their language is by origin belong to Aryan family, eventually bears some distinctive features. In the context of Assam and Assamese language, it shares both similarities as well as differences. Many Assamese scholars view it as a dialectical variation of Assamese in the context of Assamese Language. However, scholars from Bengal very often claimed Rajbangsi as dialect of Bengali Language. Contrary to the above the scholars from Rajbangsi community asserted that it is neither a dialect of Assamese nor Bengali but a distinct separate language. In this context here an attempt has been made to analysis one important grammatical feature of the Rajbangsi language namely verbal inflection and also to present a comparative analysis with the Assamese language to determine whether it is a dialect of Assamese or a separate Language of the region.
