Abstract: Root of the regionalism is in India’s manifold diversity of languages, cultures, ethnic groups, communities, religions and so on. Federation is a system in which powers are distributed between the federal units of government and the central government. There are many nations in the world follow the structure of federal government, but not all the federal structures are same they differ each other for instance we can see clearly that the federalism in India differs from the USA federal structure. There are many challenges to the federalism like outbreak of wars, increasing national and international tensions, Economic depression, Tendency towards nationalization of industries, Failure of the federal units to solve their economic and social problems, regionalism, casteism, communalism etc... The main objective of this paper is to explore about the regionalism as a challenge to the Indian federalism. This paper also discusses about the role played by the political parties in shaping the feeling of regionalism. Regions are an organized cooperation in cultural, economic, politically and they acts as a subject with distinct identity, language, culture and tradition. We can say that Regionalism is the strong feeling towards one region. For many centuries, India remained the land of many lands, regions, cultures and traditions. The sources that have been used for the study are Articles, and books etc…
