Internally displaced persons (IDPs) face numerous challenges that are often underrepresented in discussions about migration and refugee crises. Unlike refugees, IDPs are forced to flee due to conflict, violence, or natural disasters but remain within their own country’s borders. Despite their displacement, IDPs often lack access to basic rights such as adequate housing, healthcare, education, and opportunities for employment. Their daily struggles for survival are exacerbated by the absence of legal protections and the discrimination they may experience in host communities. One of the key obstacles for IDPs is the disruption of social and economic systems. Many lose their homes, land, and access to resources, while struggling to find stable work in displacement areas. Their physical and mental health are at significant risk due to poor living conditions in overcrowded and unsanitary environments, with limited healthcare access. Vulnerable groups such as children and women, especially in conflict zones, are at heightened risk of abuse, exploitation, and trafficking. IDPs also face significant legal and bureaucratic hurdles in securing their rights. National governments often fail to implement adequate protections, leaving displaced people exposed to further marginalization. While international frameworks like the Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement seek to address these issues, their enforcement remains inconsistent. This abstract explores the hidden struggles of IDPs, emphasizing the critical need for comprehensive policies that safeguard their rights. Effectively addressing their challenges requires a multi-dimensional approach that combines humanitarian aid, legal reforms, and long-term development initiatives to facilitate their reintegration and restore their dignity.
