Paper Title:
A COMPARATIVE STUDY TO ASSESS THE EFFECTIVENESS OF HOT WATER APPLICATION WITH EPSOM SALT VERSUS PLAIN HOT WATER APPLICATION IN REDUCING KNEE PAINAMONG EARLYOLDAGE (65- 74 YEARS) PEOPLE IN SELECTED RURAL AREAS OF NERCHOWK, MANDI (H.P.) 2023.
Introduction: Knee pain is common issue among old age and its often caused by decrease in bone density with age. The prevalence of osteoarthritis increased from 4,895 per 100,000 persons in 1990 to 5,313 per 100,000 persons in 2019.Assessing their Level of knee pain is key to improving detection and outcomes.
Methodology: A study was conducted using a two-group pre-test post-test design, engaging 60 early old age through a non-probability convenient sampling technique.Data were collected using a socio-demographic variables, Numerical pain rating scale with facial pain scale and rating scale for assessment of factor trigger kne pain. Validity was ensured with the Delphi technique, and reliabilitywas tested using the test-retest method and Karl Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Ethical approval was obtained from the ethical committee of GNC SLBSGMC&H, Nerchowk, Mandi (H.P), and village pradhan of Mandal, Nerchowk. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used for data analysis.
Results: The study shows that majority of population are females in experimental group 1 ( 76%) and in experimental group 2 (70%). Nearly one third of males in experimental group 1 ( 23.3%) and in experimental group 2 (30%). The paired t- test revealed significant improvements in Experimental Group 1, post test mean score significantly decreased from 5.03 to 1.50 with an SD of 1.480 from 1.771. In Experimental Group 2, the post test mean score was 2.30 from 4.733 with an SD of 1.368 from 1.413. An unpaired T-test comparing the post test scores between Experimental Group 1 and Experimental Group 2 yielding a T-value of 2.174 with 58 degrees of freedom. Experimental Group 1 experienced a more reduction in pain levels compared to Experimental Group 2.
Conclusion: Findings of study concluded that Experimental Group 1 experienceda more pronounced reduction in pain levels compared to Experimental Group 2 after intervention. These improvements indicated the epsom salt effectiveness and in experimentalgroup1typeofdietχ²=7.546,p=0.023)wasfoundtobestatistically
