Abstract: Abstract The decade from 2013 to 2023 marked a transformative period for global sports tourism, witnessing exponential financial growth driven by an increasing convergence of sports, travel, and commerce. This paper explores the evolving landscape of sports tourism by examining key global trends, investment patterns, and economic impacts that have contributed to the sector's robust expansion—estimated to surpass USD 600 billion by 2023. With mega-sporting events, wellness and adventure travel, and digital engagement redefining the sector’s scope, sports tourism has become a strategic component of national and regional development. Focusing on India’s emerging role, the paper highlights how government initiatives, infrastructure development, and the rise of domestic sports leagues have positioned the country as a growing destination for both inbound and outbound sports tourists. Through a mix of secondary data analysis, case studies, and international benchmarks, the study evaluates the financial implications of sports tourism and India’s potential to become a global player in this high-growth industry. The findings provide insights for policymakers, investors, and tourism professionals aiming to capitalize on the socio-economic benefits of this evolving sector.
