| Abstract: | Modern Kerala witnessed many political agitations and social movements. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these movements were organised and led by the principal communities and their leaders. The caste and communal consciousness of Travancore found expression through numerous publications of various communities and in the first half of the 20th century there was an influx of community- oriented press and literature. The community organisations effectively utilised their newspapers and periodicals to educate their members, to express their grievances and publicize their programmes. |
