| Abstract: | The scholarly inquiry, "Linguistic Hybridity and Identity Formation: A Code-switching Analysis of Godan," examines the complex dynamics of language, identity, and culture in Premchand's seminal novel. Through a critical analysis of code-switching in Godan, this study explores how linguistic hybridity reflects the tensions between traditional and modern identities in colonial India (Bakhtin, 1981) As Myers-Scotton (1993) notes, code-switching is a powerful tool for negotiating identity and social relationships. In Godan, Premchand's use of code-switching between Hindustani, English, and other local languages reveals the complexities of identity formation in a multilingual context (Gumperz, 1982). The insights gained from this study argues that linguistic hybridity in Godan reflects the negotiation of multiple identities and cultural affiliations in colonial India.
